What is a standard?
'Put at its simplest, a standard is an agreed, repeatable way of doing something' (BSI Group, www.bsi-global.com website)
British standards are published documents which provide technical
specifications to be used consistently as a rule, guideline or definition.

Kite Mark - is a registered certification of products and services which have met the requirements of specific standards within designated schemes. It is mainly applicable to safety and quality management standards.
The site is updated daily and includes more than 38,500 current, draft and historic British Standards, more than 16,000 of which are BSi adopted European and international standards.
Following the move to harmonisation of standards across Europe some British standards have gradually been replaced by EN - European Standards.
British Standard documents tend to cover the following areas of information
- scope of the document
- references to other standards
- terms and definitions of key words used
- construction requirements
- performance requirements
- testing
- marking
